Ancelotti prepared a spectacular Milan for this match playing Cafu and Serginho as full back positions. Rivaldo saluted his former fans and shook hands with all the players and all the management on the bench before leaving the San Siro for the final time.

Milan dominated the match from the start and created no fewer than 15 goal chances taking three of them. Rui Costa twice hit the woodwork with sepctacular shots. It was again Shevchenko who provided the goals with the first coming after a great move between Kaka, Rui Costa whose shot hit the bar. The ball fell to the unmarked Shevchenko who slotted home.

Milan continued to dominate the match with Rui Costa having a great day supported by Kaka and and in form Shevchenko. The team found it hard to close up the match though and had to wait for the 69th minute when Shevchenko went past three defenders before shooting past Amelia to sum up the match. The last goal came from a Kaka assist to the unmarked Tomasson who scored from a metre out.

A depleted Milan drew 1-1 at the Renato Curi in Perugia in a difficult match. Milan finished the match with ten men when Ambrosini was sent off for a second yellow card. Milan missed Nesta, Seedorf, Kaladze and Pancaro with Ancelotti giving some players a rest. Gattuso put Milan in front after 19 minutes with a well taken shot from outside the area but was later substituted. Milan looked tired after the effort in the Champions league match but managed a draw from a usually hostile stadium.Milan had Inzgahi strechered off and taken straight to hospital after a clash with goalkeeper Kalac.

Milan beat Bologna to remain with full points after two games with a curious display of football. Milan went ahead from a Shevchenko header and totally dominated the match until a Nervo shot from outside the area found Dida unprepared since he was covered by numerous players. Milan still did not manage to go up a gear and left it late to secure the result when Inzaghi brilliantly trapped a ball in the area and turned and twisted two defenders before beating Pagliuca. A lacklustre display, but still worth all three points.

Milan won the opening match of the serie A with a convincing 2-0 win over newly promoted Ancona. The match was rough with Maldini being expelled in the second half after a clash with Bilica.

Star of the match was, apart from Shevchenko, was Kaka. The 21 year old Brasilian gave a show of classy football. Sheva heartily thanked him for the superb movement and pass he made to clinch the all vital second goal.

Milan first goal came from a Sheva direct free kick which found the corner of the net to the right of Scarpi. Milan's second goal was a footballing masterpiece. kaka controlled the ball, lobbed it over the head of an Ancona midfielder then pretended to halt. He suddly burst into speed going past two other midfielders before unleashing a superb pass for Cafu, who had in the meantime flashed past on the right. Cafu immediately cross a low shot for Shevchenko who cooly slotted home.
