Milan: Rossi, Kaladze (Donadel 75'), Roque Junior, Costacurta, Sarr, Brocchi (Aubameyang 81'), Pirlo, Donati, Helveg, Javi Moreno, Rui Costa (Inzaghi 61')

Bate: Fedarovich, Goncharenko, Panasiuk, Molash, Mardas, Baha, Aleshkevich, Lashankov, Kobets, Kantsavy, Mironhyk

Milan's second line team with a few additions played another good match and easily qualified for the next round of the UEFA Cup. Terim's team has showed today that all the players have learned his tactics and football idealogy. The team fielded even included from the start 18 year old Mohamed Sarr who played a great match showing why Milan have such faith in this promising youngster. The Senegalese defender even managed to enter his name on the scoresheet much to his joy.

Terim fielded Rossi in goal, with Sarr on the right and Kaladze on the left with Costacurta and Roque Junior in the central roles to form a back four. In the central roles Helveg was right, Brocchi left with Pirlo and Donati central. Rui Costa was just behind Javi Moreno does in a 4-4-1-1 line up.

Milan commanded the match from the word go and never let go. Rossi was never troubled leaving the pitch with a clean jersey. The first goal came after 20 minutes when a Rui Costa first timer found the net. Milan continued to notch up chance after chance but it was Moreno on the stroke of half time. A free kick from outside the area was well taken by Moreno. The ball took a small deflection and found the back of the net.

The second half saw more of the same. It was then Sarr who scored from a corner move where he climbed way above all the rest, floated Michael Jordan style, and nodded into an empty net. The 18 year old was overjoyed and ran all over the place happy for his first official goal for his club.

The last goal came from a clear penalty when Inzaghi, who had just come in for Rui Costa, was downed before he could get to a ball. He slotted the ball home sending the keeper the wrong way for his 30th Euro goal, just one short of Baggio's 31. Di Gennaro continued to send in youngsters like Aubameyang and Donadel but the result was always the same, a dominant Milan which never gave Bate any hope.

Manager: Zaccheroni

Referee: RacalbutoYellow cards: Kovacevic, Simeone, Fiore

Milan produced another good display this time beating Lazio by two goals to nil. The match was characterised by the pouring rain which made the pitch very slippery and dangerous. Terim was also facing Zaccheroni who was making his debut on the Lazio bench. And it was an unlucky debut as well since he lost four players thorugh injury during the match. Terim inserted Rui Costa right from the start and the Portughuese star played a marvellous match. Terim played a 4-3-1-2 with the now customary back four of Contra, Maldini, Laursen and Kaladze. In the central area Serginho playe with Gattuso and Albertini. Rui Costa played just behind Inzaghi, Shevchenko.

Milan controlled the pitch well right from the start and created some good opportunities to score which Inzaghi was always at the end of. Shevchenko played a lot for the team today clearing space for Inzaghi most of the time. Kaladze made a couple of mistakes which could have resulted in two goals. The first, when he slipped, saw Abbaiti make a great save off Crespo with the ball hitting the crossbar. The next came from a bad backpass but Crespo slipped just before he could shoot.

Milan's goal came just before half time. A superb solo move by Contra ended with a cross which Inzaghi pounced on immediately to open the score for Milan. At the end of the half Crespo was seeing pulling his hamstring and had to be substituted by Kovacevic. Shevchenko could have doubled the score but Peruzzi somehow saved a certain goal with his feet.

The second half started with a beautiful Rui Costa run on the right and a delicate cross for Martin Laursen who easily headed home Milan's second goal.

Nesta then pulled his hamstring in an incredible series of injuries to the Lazio team. Milan continued to press forward until Lazio finished with ten men when Dino Baggio also pulled a hamstring and had to be taken off. Milan controlled the match easily from now on and only a Fiore shot was registered from the Lazio end which Abbiati saved well to corner.

21/9/2001 Umit out for three weeks

20/9/2001 Milan sign Kutuzov

As soon as the match against Bate Borisov was over Galliani announced that Milan had signed under-21 Bate striker Vitali Kutuzov. The player was easily the best player on the pitch yesterday (no: 8 shirt for you who saw the match) and the decision was taken since it is now impossible to sign Simone from Monaco. Kutuzov has been a Milan target for some weeks now but Galliani wanted to wait till after the first leg to announce the finalisation of the deal.

Arbitro: Stephen Dunn (Ing)
Ammoniti: Roque Junior

In front of a measly 3000 spectators Milan did their job well and virtually qualified to the next round by beating Bate Borisov by the classic two goals to nil.

The first half was a quiet affair with Milan just being careful not to make any mistakes, especially given the conditions they were playing in. In fact the pitch was extremely slippery. Terim played with a back four which were easily transformed into a back three when it was noted that Bate were only defending with six midfielders and a back four with virtually no attackers at all. One could hardly not notice a packed midfield with at least eleven players fighting it out for the ball.

Only Aleshevich was creating problems for Milan with a couple of chances. One of them was an extremely good opportunity for Bate but Abbiati saved well by diving into the forwards feet.

The second half saw a more determined Milan. The team ran well with Pirlo, who had just come in for Donati, taking control of midfield and laying the ball across from one side to the other. Milan managed to create a number of good chances but Javi Moreno failed to score some easy chances. In teh 65th minute came Milan's opener. A Serginho free kick from the left floated across towards Shevchenko who beat his marker on the jump and headed home. Milan were now more than ever in command and the goal seemed to shock Bate into submission. Milan were now happy to move the ball and kep possession keeping in mind Lazio next sunday. For the last seven minutes Di Gennaro inserted Sarr into the right full back slot and reverted to a 4-4-2.

With two minutes to go Moreno finally scored. An innocous Serginho cross was mishit by a central defender with the ball falling into Moreno's feet who only had to score into the empty net. At last Moreno had opened his scoresheet with Milan. The last shot of the day was Bate's however. A long range effort with smacked the cross bar with Abbiati beaten.

A good away win which should guarantee that Milan move to the next round of the UEFA cup.

Shevchenko 15', Inzaghi 54', Muzzi pen. 73'

UDINESE 4-4-2: Turci; Bertotto, Sottil, Zamboni, Pieri; Pinzi (Martinez 56'), Pizarro, Helguera, Jorgensen (Pavon 81'); Iaquinta, Muzzi (Sosa 81').

MILAN: 4-4-2 Abbiati; Contra, Laursen, Maldini, Kaladze; Umit, Albertini, Gattuso (Donati 75'), Serginho (Roque Junior 90'); Inzaghi, Shevchenko (Brocchi 83').

Referee: Borriello

Yellow cards: Gattuso, Contra.

Milan beat Udinese at the Friuli stadium with goals coming from the super-duo up front of Shevchenko and Inzaghi. A non-existant penalty however put Udinese back into the match and Milan had to suffer in the end with Abbiati producing a super save with basically what was the last shot of the match.

Terim decided to play Umit on the right midfield from the start with Contra behind him in defence. Kaladze again played left with Laursen and Maldini taking the central roles. Gattuso and Albertini worked the central midfield with Serginho on the left and Shevchenko and Inzaghi taking the foward lines.

The match started with Milan immediately taking control of the match. Contra started him usual overlaps as did Serginho. Umit Davala covered well for Contra during these attacks. The first goal came when Shevchenko got hold on an innocuos ball just outside the area. He suddently right footed the ball into the corner of the net to put Milan ahead. Milan controlled the midfield and started moving the ball around from left to right and vice versa never giving Udinese an opportunity to get hold of the ball. Inzaghi and Shevchenko had another couple of shots but none were on target.

The second half saw more of the same with Milan still in complete control. At around the 54' minute mark Shevchenko got hold of the ball and passed it through Bertotto's legs to realease Inzaghi. SuperPippo's diagonal found it's mark leaving Turci unable to get hold of the ball for Milan to go 2-0 up. The game here looked over but referee Boriello had other ideas. In the 73rd minute Kaladze tackled newcomer Martinez in the area clrearing the ball. Much to everyone's amazement he pointed to the spot. Muzzi converted the penalty to put Udinese back into the match.

Towards the end an Albertini corner saw Laursen rise above all onlt for the ball to hit the bar. It was then Abbiati who made a miraculous save with his shin off a deflected shot to give Milan all three points.

After all the criticism for Terim it was his turn to answer back, and answer back he did. Against the club that launched him in Italy he came up with the line-up that everyone wanted. He also produced the scintillating football the fans were waiting for and ended up waving and saluting the fans under the Curva Sud at the end of the match. Terim started with a 4-4-2 with Kaladze on the left, Helveg on the right and Maldini and Laursen in the centre of the defence. Contra played on the right on midfield with Serginho on the left. In the centre the welcome return of Albertini and Gattuso. In attack the duo Shevchenko, Inzaghi.

Milan finished the game with 12 shots on goal, 5 of them into the net. The first came when Shevchenko lobbed over Taglialetela when set lose by Inzaghi after an incredible series of one touch passes with most of the team participating. Two minutes later the usual Chiesa, who always manages to score against Milan, equalised from a direct free kick. Milan continued to press hard and towards the final stages of the first half scored twice. First Laursen put Milan ahead from a corner move with a nice right footed tap-in. Inzaghi then pounced in his usual style on a lose ball from a misunderstanding in the Fiorentina defence sliding the ball with his left foot into the empty net. Fiorentina failed to give up and still ran like hell in the second half but it was Shevchenko, in the 53rd minute, who scored number four direct from a corner move he hit the ball first time into the net showing that he is returning to the normal form we are accustomed to. Chiesa in the 58th min relighted the Viola with hope when he pounced on a defensive error to make it 4-2. Milan were not only counterattacking but producing chance after chance. The fifth goal was inevitable and it was Serginho, one of the best players of the match who ran clear on the left an shot at goal beating Taglialatela for the final time. Shevchenko had provided the assist.

Milan had other opportunities to score but failed to add to the scoresheet. Terim has positive comments for all the team and for the way his players interpreted the match.

2/9/2001 Alaves 1 Milan 0

A depleted Milan side, due to many players on international duty, lost by the only goal in a friendly match held in Vitoria, home of Alaves. The goal was scored by Geli early in the first half. The positive note of the match was the return of Demetrio Albertini. A number of youngsters took formed part of terim's expidition and some made a very good impression. Most impressive was young Mohammed Sarr, who is an 18 year old Senegalese who has already played for his country. He forms part regularly of Tassotti's squad in the Primavera.
