30/10/2001 Maldini out for 40 days

Maldini's injury to his thigh muscle is more serious than was thought. The Milan captain will miss a number of games, including Italy's friendly in Japan, and should be able to start playing after around 40 days of therapy.

29/10/2001 Sheva leaves hospital

Andriy Shevchenko has left the "Fatebenefratelli" hospital in Milano after yesterday's surgery on his nose. The Ukranian broke his nose in the match against Bologna when he tried to score from a header in the second half. In the meantime he will be out of action for 7 to 10 days when he was due to play the all important decider between Ukraine and Germany on November 10th. It is doubtful whether he can be at fully fit by that date. The only certainty is that he will surely be back on the pitch after 15 days. On the other injury front Maldini and Rui Costa will undergo tests tomorrow to evaluate the entity of their muscle injuries.

Milan scout Bostian

Young 19 year old defender Cesar Bostian is being scouted by Milan and Ajax scouts and has left a good impression, getting rave reviews. Milan are trying to conclude the deal for the central Dinamo Zagreb defender before Ajax can get their hands on him. Other sources claim that Milan will lure the player and then pass him over to Perugia on loan for Trianios Dellas, who is certainly more experienced.

Milan stop at 55

Milan had repeatedly scored at home at the San Siro for an incredible 55 consecutive games. The record run has now finally been halted by Bologna yesterday. The last match when Milan had failed to score dates back to Milan - Napoli of the 1997/98 league, on the 26th April, 1998, when Milan were held to a 0-0 draw.

28/10/2001 Disappointing home draw

- --- --

----0---------- 0

MILAN (4-3-1-2): Abbiati; Contra, Laursen, Costacurta, Maldini; Gattuso (46 Donati), Kaladze, Serginho; Rui Costa (46 Umit); Inzaghi, Shevchenko (53 Simone)

Manager: Terim.

BOLOGNA (3-5-2): Pagliuca; Gamberini (70 Fresi), Falcone, Castellini; Nervo (84 Wome), Olive, Pecchia, Brighi, Macellari; Zauli, Cruz (70 Bellucci)

Manager: Guidolin.

Referee: De Santis

Yellow cards: Gamberini, Gattuso, Serginho, Fresi, Kaladze, Costacurta, Bellucci, Umit.
Red cards: Guidolin 37th min.

Milan played a disappointing scoreless draw at the San Siro against a dangerous Bologna who achieved the scope of their visit to Milano. The worst part is that Milan lost Shevchenko (broken nose), Rui Costa (muscle injury) and Maldini (possible hamstring) in the process. Terim fielded the winning derby team against Bologna but failed to bag the points. Milan had a couple of good chances early but they were never clear easy chances. With Milan devoid of good ideas Terim replaced Gattuso, who was fouling a lot, with Donati, and Rui Costa with Umit Davala to increase intensity on the right wing.

Bologna have the best defence of the serie A and Milan have the best attack but today the Bologna defence was unsurmountable. With the midfield packed with yellow shirts Milan found it difficult to penetrate into the area. In the first half a fantastic counterattack nearly put Bologna ahead but Zauli's shot was just over.

In second half a dangerous header by Shevchenko saw Pagliuca save but Sheva broke his nose in trying to score and had to be substituted by Simone. Moments later Inzaghi scored but the goal was disallowed for offside.

In the end possession was 29 minutes for Milan and only 19 for Bologna, such was the sterile domination of Milan today. In my opinion Milan need to buy a player with the characteristics of Oliver Bierhoff. In certain days like this, one would think that this is the only way to get past a stubborn defence.

27/10/2001 Milan after Gargo

Milan are after Udinese central defender Mohammed Gargo. The player has been indicated by Terim as a good addition to remedy the defensive problems. Roma are also after the player who is expected to cost between 15 to 20 billion Italian lire.

Rumours....yes again !!!

A number of transfer rumours are circulating as is now the norm. In a bid to strengthen the defense apart from Kuffour a number of new names have emerged. One of them is that of Khaled Badra, the Tunisian player currently with Genoa. In midfield Dalla Bona is again in the news with Basseggio of Anderlecht also in the fray.

21/10/2001 Milan crush Inter, again !!!

-------

Ventola (I)13', Shevchenko (M) 60', 77', Contra (M) 62', Inzaghi (M) 66', Kallon (I)91'

INTER: (4-4-2) Toldo; Vivas, Cordoba, Materazzi, Georgatos (Okan 76'); J. Zanetti, Di Biagio (C.Zanetti 72'), Seedorf, Guglielminpietro; Kallon, Ventola(Adriano 67').

Manager: Cuper.

MILAN: (3-4-1-2) Abbiati; Costacurta, Laursen, Maldini, Gattuso, Albertini (Contra 46'), Kaladze, Serginho; Rui Costa(Brocchi 80'); Inzaghi (Donati 67'), Shevchenko.

Manager: Terim.

Referee: Collina

Yellow cards: Laursen, Contra, Kallon, Vivas, Materazzi

After hitting Inter for SIX last year in the derby, Milan this time scored another FOUR with Shevchenko scoring his number NINE goal in SEVEN matches in the derby. I shall start with the line-up as usual. Terim fielded a new Milan Costacurta in a right full back role Serginho as left full back (this is what he said !!!) and with Laursen and Maldini in the centre. In midfield Kaladze, Albertini, Gattuso and Rui Costa with Inzaghi and Shevchenko up front.

With the fans sporting a giant tennis racket with SIX balls, just to remind the Inter fans about last year, the match started off well for Milan with a Shevchenko free kick just missing the post. But it was Inter who took the lead. A Guglielminpietro cross from the left found Kallon on the right side of the post. The player just touched the ball on for Ventola with Abbiati slipping and the ball finished into the net. Milan were shocked after controlling the match till that moment and Inter had a couple of opportunities to finish the game. Milan were not idle and shots from Shevchenko, Kaladze, Inzaghi and Rui Costa gave Toldo a few problems.

The second half saw Terim produce a surprise move. Contra came in for Albertini. The team shifted to a back three with five players in midfield and two up front. The team started moving a lot better and soon enough Milan nearly equalised from a long range effort. In the 13th min of the second half Shevchenko equalised. A perfect Rui Costa cross found Shevchenko unmarked and the Ukranian headed home from close range. Three minutes later Milan took the lead. Contra picked the ball in midfield, ran a few metres and with a tremendous left foot effort found the corner on the net to beat Toldo. Inter were shell shocked and Milan took command of the proceedings. In teh 20th min, only after 4 mins from the 2-1 lead, Contra crossed a perfect ball for Inzaghi who headed past the outstretched Toldo. With the goal Inzaghi was immediately substituted with Donati. With a 3-1 lead under his belt Terim wanted to control the game in midfield. And so they did. Inter were seeing less and less of the ball with Milan in complete command. In the 77th minute Shevchenko got his second of the match. A Serginho run saw the Brazilian cross for the onrushing Sheva to tap the ball in from close range to beat Toldo the fourth time. Rui Costa was substituted by Brocchi and Milan locked up the midfield completely. Kallon's goal in the 91st minute was just an episode in a second half which was 100% dominated by Milan.

At the end of the match Cosmin Contra was handed the Man of the Match trophy by journalist David Messina. Milan now lie second to Chievo Verona.

20/10/2001Albertini will play

Albertini's injury is less serious than was currently thought. He will play in the derby tomorrow.

Kutuzov in Napoli's future

Rumour has it that Vitali Kutuzov will move to Napoli in January in a loan deal. The player needs playing experience in Italian football and Milan seem to have agreed to hand him over to Napoli for this task.

19/10/2001 Albertini's injury

During yesterday's match against CSKA Sofia Demetrio Albertini suffered a muscle injury which might keep him out of the derby next Sunday. Further tests are to be made today to ascertain the entity of the injury.

18/10/2001 Milan beat CSKA

-------

----2---------- - 0

Rui Costa 20th min, Shevchenko 51st min

Milan: Abbiati; Contra, Costacurta, Roque Junior, Maldini; Brocchi, Albertini (46' Gattuso), Kaladze; Rui Costa (85' Pirlo); Shevchenko, Inzaghi (46' Serginho).

Manager: Terim

Cska Sofia: Lukic; Antonov, Ivanov G., Valkanov (87' Vranjes); Janchev, Tomovski, Penev, Gueye, Petrov; Manchev (73' Masena Moke), Bucarev (64' Lechkov).

Manager: Nikodimov

Referee: Larsen (Danimarca)

Yellow Cards: Brocchi (M), Penev (C), Serginho (M)

Milan maintained the tempo in the UEFA Cup and beat CSKA Sofia without much hassle. In fact, at times, Milan seemed more concentrated on the derby due next Sunday. Some substitutions would certainly embrace this theory. Terim inserted Costacurta in lieu of Laursen. Kaladze was fielded in midfield with Brocchi on the left.

Inzaghi missed an easy chance after 4 minutes whilst a Shevchenko free kick just missed the post minutes later. Milan went ahead from a Rui Costa shot, deflected by a Bulgarian defender, probably Petrov. The match continued with Milan dominating the proceedings quite easily.

The second half saw Milan lose Albertini who had to be substituted by Gattuso. Serginho came in for Inzaghi and Serginho soon got Sheva on the scoresheet. A brilliant run on the left saw him beat three defenders before looking up and crossing a delightful ball for Shevchenko to head home. The match slowed down even further and with CSKA hardly even trying to get back into the game, Milan settled down and even slowed the pace of their game. CSKA still were not dangerous and the game ended after a number of substitutions which saw Pirlo come in for Rui Costa and three substitutions from the Bulgarian side.

The second leg will be played in two weeks time.

Milan sign Gillet

MILAN have secured the services of Belgian goalkeeper Jean Francois Gillet from Serie B side Bari, although he will not join the club until the start of next season.

Gillet has been earning rave reviews for his performances for Monza and then Bari before he was then banned after testing positive for nandrolone last season, but he is now back to his best.

The Belgian Under-21 international had been a target of Milan during his time at Standard Liege. Gillet will replace Rossi who will be retiring at the end of the season.

17/10/2001 Probable line-ups

These are the probable line-ups for the UEFA cup clash between Milan and CSKA Sofia which is to be played tomorrow at the San Siro.

Milan (4-3-1-2): 1 Rossi, 22 Contra, 5 Costacurta, 25 Roque Junior, 3 Maldini, 32 Brocchi, 4 Albertini, 13 Kaladze, 10 Rui Costa, 7 Shevchenko, 9 Inzaghi

Milan looking at Marat Izmailov

Milan are taking a look at the possibility of investing in Marat Izmailov of Lokomotiv Moscow. The midfielder made a very good impression against Roma in the Champions League. Shevchenko's friend Rezo Choconelidze had already scouted the player for Milan in the recent past.

Other news...

Milan, Juventus and Roma are interested in the Greek central defender Dellas of Perugia. The player has made a good impression in the recent Perugia outings.

16/10/2001 Galliani with Terim

Adriano Galliani has made it clear in a press conference today that Milan's management is behind Terim all the way. Galliani was forced to make this statement since all the newspapers in Italy are stating that Ancellotti is about to take over as manager at Milan. Even captain Paolo Maldini made a declaration stating that Milan's recent lacklustre performances were mainly due to physical tiredness rather than bad choices by the manager.

Coloccini unhappy

From Spain Coloccini said that Milan have treated him badly. He said that Milan keep looking for defenders even though he is on their books. He said that he feels treated like a third division player but then also hinted that Real Madrid have asked about the possibility of luring him to Madrid. Colocini has been linked with a possible exchange deal for Mantorras of Benfica.

Milan target Pierini and Gatti

Milan have targeted Pierini again for a January transfer to try to sort out the problems in defence. He is still Terim's favourite for the central defender role. Milan are also looking at the possibility of luring to Milan Perugia's classy little midfielder Fabio Gatti. Gatti is making an incredible impact at Perugia in lieu of Liverani and has also gained a position with Italy's U 21 outfit under Claudio Gentile. Milan see the player as Albertini's natural substitute apart from being an incredible investment for the future.

14/10/2001 Milan fail to bag points

-------

----1---------- - 1

Shevchenko 44th min, Maniero 61st min.

Milan: Abbiati; Contra (77' Helveg), Roque Junior, Laursen, Maldini; Gattuso, Albertini, Serginho; Rui Costa (87' Kaladze); Shevchenko, Inzaghi (76' Javi Moreno).

Manager: Terim

Venezia: Rossi; Conteh, Bilica, Bjorklund, Bettarini; Valtolina (61' De Franceschi), Andersson, Bressan (72' Rukavina); Maniero, Magallanes (49' Di Napoli).

Manager: Buso

Referee: Gesari di Genova
Yellow cards: G. Rossi, Maniero, Inzaghi, Helveg

Milan failed to bag all three points against the bottom club Venezia. Milan lacked ideas and movement throughout the match and even managed to be whistled at by their fans at the end. terim fielded Roque Junior and Laursen at the centre of defence with maldini moved back to the left. Contra was on the right. In midfield the usual Albertini, Gattuso helped Serginho and Rui Costa. In attack Shevchenko and Inzaghi.

Venezia played with all their players at the back relying only on counterattacks to create the few chances that were available in this drab match. The area was so crwoded that Milan only managed two shots at goal. One was incredibly saved by Rossi off a point blank Inzaghi header and the other was the goal. Shevshcneko picked up a ball from a corner, controlled the ball impeccably and smacked the ball into the net with his right foot. Earlier Abbiati had saved the day when he made a great save off Bressan who was one on one against him.

The second half started with more of the same but with Venezia looking more determined than ever. Milan failed to close up the match with another goal and just kept moving back defending the result until the inevitable happened. The equaliser came when De Franceshi, who had just come in, managed to cross the ball. Roque Junior and especially Maldini failed to block Maniero who easily headed the ball into the net with Abbiati stranded.

Milan tried to get the game back on track but Venezia again moved back defending it's fort. Rossi had to make a couple of saves but nothing serious was thrown at him. Milan's problem lie in the fact that the team is not moving in harmony. The attackers wait to much for the ball and do not create space. This leaves Rui Costa with just the option of giving the ball to the strikers who are alwyas with their backs to the goalposts.

Two important points were thrown away today. Let's hope we can recover from this period, but it looks to me that Milan were playing better with a clear 4-4-2 !!!

13/10/2001 Transfer rumours galore

As usual transfer rumours are rife around the Milan camp. In the past few days a number of players have been so called "Milan bound". Mantorras could be heading for Milan with Coloccini and Kutozov as exchange material. Milan also seem to have a grasp on both Hakan Sas and Umit Karan of Galatasaray. There are also some defenders on the list such as Bayer Leverkusen's Lucio and Bellini of Atalanta.

8/10/2001 Sheva sponsors Vorobei

Shevchenko had words of praise for his companion in the Ukraine side Vorobei. The striker has made a good impression with the national side and according to Sheva, is ready for a Serie A club.

Latest transfer talk includes rumours that Dalla Bona might finally arrive in January with Baiocco. Regarding the Perugia player Milan have to fight off competition from Juventus.

6/10/2001 Offer for Mantorras ???

It seems Milan are very very keen to obtain the services of Benfica striker Mantorras. Reportedly, Milan have offered Kutuzov and Coloccini for the striker. Galliani's intention is to lure him to the club in January 2002.

5/10/2001 Costacurta to stay

Rumours that Costacurta was in New York to sign a deal with the Metrostars were also unfounded. It seems that he was there only on holiday and seeing some old friends. The player also said that he will be trying to stay with Milan even next year.

4/10/2001Shevchenko denies rumours

Andriy Shevchenko has categorically denied rumours that he is unhappy at Milan. Certain rumours emerged from the "usual" Spanish newspaper which seems intent to try to lure him to Real Madrid and always carefully "implies" certain things that Sheva says and interprests them to suit the purpose. Shevchanko stated that he is very happy at Milan and will stay with the club as long as he possibly can.
