Another Shevchenko double saw Milan beat a very good and spirited Modena at the San Siro. As expected Milan were a tired team but still managed to create enough chances to see off Modena and reach the top of the table going past Juventus.

Ancelotti fielded Dida in goal with Cafu and Pancaro as full backs. Nesta and Maldini were the central defenders. In midfield Seedorf, Rui Costa, Ambrosini and Pirlo with Shevchenko and Inzaghi up front.

Shevchenko's first goal came from a perfect Pirlo pass. The Ukranian controlled the ball before beating Ballotta with a low shot. After this goal Milan relaxed and Ambrosini saved the day with a fantastic clearance off the line from an Amoruso shot at goal. Milan upped the tempo just slightly in the second half till the goal sealed off the match. Rui Costa produced a magical first time pass to send Shevchenko clear. Sheva slotted the ball home to close the match. Ancelotti then made a few changes Gattuso came in for Seedord, Kaka for Rui Costa.

Milan played a good match and in the same time rested some important matches ahead of the more important Champions League and Intercontinental Cup matches. Milan were without Kaladze, Maldini, Inzaghi and rested all of the Brasilians, Cafu and Kaka and Ancelotti even left Seedorf out for most of the match. Hero of the match was Shevchenko with his doubles strike. The first came just before half time when a perfect Gattuso cross found Sheva head strongly beating Marcheggiani.

Earlier a Rui Costa long range effort was thwarted by the keeper to corner. The second half saw more of Milan and Sheva beat the offside trap from a fre kick to hit home his second with a low right foot effort. Later on Tomasson saw his shot hit the bar and bounce off the line. Milan had another couple of chance the last from Boriello who's shot was again saved by Marcheggiani.

The second half saw Parma defending with nine men at times and only miracles saved them from conceeding a goal. Shevchenko looked tired and Inzaghi made his return to the side in the second half after an absence of some weeks. Milan's best chance in the seocnd hald came from a Seedorf solo effort but the keeper just managed to tip to corner.

Milan played a good solid match in front of a packed San Siro in Italy's top classic. Juventus started better a maintained a better all round grip on the match. After a very balanced first half Milan took the lead from Tomasson who was found unmarked by Pirlo. Milan slowed the game down and Ancelotti made a few tactical substitutions until a Di Vaio scorcher from outside the area beat Dida who had till then been easily the man of the match with two superb saves to his credit.
