23/11/2002 Super Serginho !!!

mm------ ----

------1-1---- --- -----0-

13' Serginho

Milan: Dida, Simic, Costacurta, Maldini, Kaladze, Gattuso, Pirlo (65' Ambrosini), Seedorf, Serginho (82' Chamot), Rivaldo, Inzaghi (69' Shevchenko)

Manager: Ancelotti

Inter: Toldo, Vivas (46' J. Zanetti), Cordoba, Cannavaro, Coco, Conceicao (74' Okan), Di Biagio, Farinos (82' Kallon), Morfeo, Recoba, Vieri

Manager: Cuper

Referee: Paparesta

Yellow cards: Di Biagio (I), Inzaghi (M), Cordoba (I), Serginho (M)

Milan played their hearts out in this important Milan derby and beat city rivals Inter with a solitary Serginho goal after just 13 minutes. Milan had numerous opportunities to close out the match, especially in the second half where Inter took risks in their vain effort to equalise the match.

Ancelotti made just one surprise move. he left Rui Costa out of the match for Serginho, and what a move it was. The Brasilian dominated his left flank, creating numerous problems for Inter with his runs and even managing to score a beautiful goal from a superb Rivaldo assist.

The first chance fell for Vieri but his header was saved by Dida. After Serginho's goal Recoba had a good chance but his header was easily saved by Dida. On the 28th minute mark Milan exchanged well inside the area but Serginho just missed adding number two. At this point Milan were well in control and Serginho again tried to lob over Toldo on the 44th minute mark but just missed.

The second, as was expected, was with a lot more Inter. They pressed forward but Milan absorbed the pressure well. All that happened though was some good Sheva moves who had come in for Inzaghi by this time and a super save by Toldo off a Kaladze first timer. Shevchenko was also denied a perfectly valid goal, but the ref judged that he handled the ball whilst controlling it. The replay showed no such thing.

Milan have now gone top of the serie A after Juve's draw with Bologna earlier today.

17/11/2002 Two penalties for three points !!!

mm------ ----

------1-2---- --- ----- 1-

48' pen., 70' pen. Pirlo (M), 64' Filippini (P)

Milan: Dida, Simic (46' Helveg), Nesta (20' Costacurta), Maldini, Kaladze, Ambrosini, Pirlo, Seedorf (75' Dalla Bona), Rui Costa, Inzaghi, Rivaldo

Parma: Frey, Siviglia (82' Gilardino), Bonera, Ferrari, Junior (69' Benarrivo), Barone (74' Bresciano), Lamouchi, Filippini, Mutu, Nakata, Adriano

Referee: Bertini

Yellow cards: Junior (P), Costacurta (M), Filippini (P), Kaladze (M)

Milan obtained three precious points to move within one point of Inter before the derby next Saturday. It had to take two penalties to give Milan the three points. Ancelotti fielded Dida, who recovered from his injury. Simic and Kaladze were on the flanks of Nesta and Maldini. In midfield Pirlo, Rui Costa, Seedorf, Rivaldo and Ambrosini. Inzaghi was the sole striker. Shevchenko was again on the bench.

Milan started well and dominated most of the match but the team failed to create the necessary chances to win the match outright. Rivaldo went closest with a scorcher in the first half with a left footed shot which just missed. That was basically it for the first half except for the fact that Nesta hobbled off injured with a possible muscle problem half way through the first half.

For the second half Ancelotti had to make his second substitution. Simic had to be changed for Helveg. Milan moved forward in the second half and after only three minuted the rossoneri obtained their first penalty. Rivaldo tried to control the ball in the area but Parma's Barone handled the ball in the effort to take it away from the Brasilian. The referee immediately pointed to the spot. Pirlo cooly sent Frey the wrong way. The match continued with Milan possessing most of the proceedings but failing to close the match. As usual Milan conceded the draw from a defensive blunder. A cross saw kaladze nod the ball and in the effort to clear it it fell to Filippini who shot immediately into the corner of the net. Adriano here was clearly in an offside position and in front of the ball but the goal was given. It was here that Milan risked moving forward and a risk it was. In a counter attack Mutu hit the bar. It was not that Ancelotti called up both Tomasson and Shevchenko.

It was exactly at this point that Milan went ahead. A well curled Rivaldo free kick saw Bonera pull down Ambrosini as he was about to make impact with the ball. Again the referee pointed to the spot. This time Pirlo changed sides and beat frey a second time. Ancelotti changed plan and inserted Dalla Bona for a tired Seedorf. Minutes later Ambrosini had a free header only to the see the ball smack the post with Frey beaten. Milan endured the final onslaught from Parma where Gilardino had two good chances to equalise. A nail biting affair and a precious three points against a good Parma.

Arbitro: Paparesta

Yellow cards: Nesta (M), Rui Costa (M), Iuliano (J), Rivaldo (M), Camoranesi (J)

Milan tried hard but give problems to Juventus but it never materialised. Two costly mistakes early in the game gave Juventus a 2-0 lead, which is exactly what they wanted. The first goal came when Pirlo lost the ball in midfield and let Del Piero run forward and pass the ball to the unmarked Di Vaio, who alone just pushed the ball into the empty net. Milan tried to recover but were caught out again a few minutes later when again del Piero fed the unmarked Thuram who easily scored number two.

Milan were shocked and Ancelotti tried to manoever his side to contend the match. Milan were awarded a penalty for a clear handball by Birindelli. Pirlo took the kick and scored to put Milan back into the game. The rest of the match was now Milan trying to surge forward and Juventus operating dangerous counterattacks. neither side came close till the end and the result remained the same.

Gattuso injured

Gattuso will miss the Juventus - Milan match as well as the derby. The player sustained a knee injury last wednesday in the serie A clash against Udinese.

6/11/2002 Milan suffer...but win !!!

mm------ ----

------1-1---- --- ----- 0-

89' Rivaldo (M)

Milan: Dida, Simic, Nesta, Maldini, Kaladze, Gattuso (71' Serginho), Pirlo, Seedorf, Rui Costa (71' Rivaldo), Inzaghi, Shevchenko (84' Tomasson).
Manager: Ancelotti

Udinese: De Sanctis, Kroldrup, Sensini, Manfredini, Alberto, Rossitto, Pizarro, Pieri (73' Bertotto), Jorgensen, Jancker (59' Muntari), Muzzi (83' Iaquinta).
Manager: Spalletti

Referee: Bertini

Yellow cards: Alberto, Manfredini, Maldini, Pirlo.

Milan had to suffer to beat a very good Udinese today at the San Siro. Udinese played well tactically and had Milan at odds at certain times. The only goal came a minute before the end through a deviated Rivaldo free kick which found the net much to the relief of the fans at the San Siro. Milan created few chances today and Rui Costa never managed to find a position on the field of play. Seedorf hit the bar with a long range effort in the first half but a minute later Jorgensen headed onto the bar from a good position to even things out.

It was Milan's determination that saw them through when in the last minute a Rivaldo free kick saw Sensini just slightly touch the ball, with the sphere ending up in the net. It has to be said that the ball was on the way to the net anyway. A minute later Serginho burst into the area and was floored. the referee pointed to the spot. Inzaghi took the kick but the ball went over the bar.

3/11/2002 Good display and home win

mm------ ----

------1-2---- --- ----- 0-

19' Inzaghi (M), 64' Rivaldo (M)

Milan: Dida, Simic, Nesta, Costacurta (74' Laursen), Kaladze, Gattuso, Brocchi, Seedorf (69' Serginho), Rui Costa (77' Ambrosini), Rivaldo, Inzaghi

Manager: Ancelotti

Reggina: Castellazzi (28' Belardi), Jiranek, Vargas, Franceschini, Morabito, Mesto, Mozart, Paredes, Leon (46' Bogdani), Di Michele, Nakamura (23' Cirillo)

Manager: Mutti

Referee: De Santis

Yelloq cards : Kaladze (M), Paredes (R) Brocchi (M)

Red cards: Vargas (R)

Milan produced another good display at the San Siro totally outplaying Reggina. Inzaghi jotted up goal number 100 in 194 games in the Serie A and the team kept up the pace with the top teams nearly all winning. Rivaldo did basically everything...missed a penalty, hit the post and scored whilst Rui Costa played a magical game. With Maldini and Pirlo disqualified Milan showed that Brocchi and Costacurta were great substitutes showing that no player in this system is irreplacible.

Milan started off well and took command of the preceedings immediately showing that the match would eventually go their way. The first goal came when Rui Costa was brought down when about to shoot at goal in front on the Reggina keeper. The referee pointed to the spot and sent the Reggina captain Vargas off the pitch. Rivaldo took the kick but Castellazzi saved well only to the Inzaghi pounce like a jaguar onto the ball scoring into the empty net. Milan has taken the lead, and Reggina were down to ten men. Reggina's luck continued to desert them when after Cirillo replaced Nakamura to adjust the team they lost Leon with injury after goalkeeper Castellazzi had to be replaced after the goal because Inzaghi hit him in the head after the goal.

Milan continued to press forward but now slowed the game down considerably. Reggina never even shot at goal in the first half and Dida was seen doing warming up sessions in his side of the pitch.

Ancelotti wanted to close the game down and he must have spurned the players on at half time since the team came out with a renewed determination. Milan created chance after chance with seeforf and Inzaghi missing easy chances when alone in front of goal. Rivaldo then hit a 25 metre scorcher which saw keeper Belardi just touch onto the post. It would have been a magnificent goal. The brasilian's luck changed when he scored a few moments later. A good move from the right saw Gattuso cross. inzaghi mised the ball only for it to fall to Rivaldo who blasted it into the top right corner. At this point the game was over. Belardi continued to make miraculous saves which in the end earned him the man of the Match award. Ancelotti inserted laursen for Costacurta, Serginho for Seedorf and Ambrosini for Rui Costa. Milan now play Udinese next wednesday to recover the lost opening day match.

Goalkeepers

Milan have swooped down on the Ancona and U21 Italy international Amelia. The player's transfer fee is in the region of 7 million Euros. Milan's plan is to let Amelia mature with Ancona for another year. In the meantime rumours are rife. Abbiati is being mentioned as heading for Parma with Flavio Roma heading for Milan from Monaco.
