30/11/2001 Milan - Perugia exchange deal

Milan and Perugia could be exchanging two players each next January. The players in question are Baiocco and Ze Maria who will move to Milan and Daino and Umit Davala who will head towards Perugia.

Milan fourth richest club

Milan are the fourth richest club in the world according to official statistics published today. Milan are the first in Italy behind Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich who head the table.

Moreno could be Fulham bound

Javi Moreno has been requested by Fulham to go on a loan deal till the end of the season. The Spaniard who never managed to find good form in Italy could be well tempted to go ahead with this move to gain some playing time in London.

28/11/2001 Easy control

PERUGIA (3-5-2): Tardioli; Rezaei, Maury, Milanese; Ze Maria, Blasi, Gatti (18’ st Cordova), Ahn (27’ st Berrettoni), Grosso; Vryzas, Samereh (1’ st Nalitzis). Manager: Cosmi.
Subs: Mazzantini, Tedesco, Fusani, Dasoul.

MILAN (4-4-1-1): Abbiati; Contra, Roque Junior, Costacurta (26’ st Laursen), Kaladze (23’ pt Helveg); Umit, Gattuso, Donati, Brocchi; Pirlo (31’ st Kutuzov), Simone. Manager: Ancelotti.
Subs: Abbiati, Chamot, Serginho, Shevchenko.

Referee: Pieri di Genova
Yellow cards: Contra (M) e Donati (M), entrambi per gioco scorretto
Spectators: around 5000

Milan easily controlled Perugia to get through to the next round of the Coppa Italia after drawing 0-0 at the Renato Curi Stadium this evening. Ancelotti fielded a second string side with Rossi in goal, Kaladze and Contra as wing backs and with Costacurta and Roque Junior in the centre. In midfield Gattuso, Brocchi, Pirlo and Umit and Donati doing the hard work in midfield with the lone Simone up front.

In a match which Milan commanded from start to finish the sole objective seemed to be not to concede any goals to continue the streak to a total of 5 games. In the effort milan managed to hit two posts through Pirlo and Simone. Otherwise not much can be said on the whole match except for some good individual showings. Roque Junior proved to be a good central defender whilst in the second half Umit showed that he is a good right wing who can produce good quality crosses for our forwards. On a sad note Kaladze was injured after a bad tackle in the first half. The extent of the damage is not known yet.

Milan were concentrated throughout the match and very well organised in all the sectors of the pitch. Milan will now meet the winners of the Siena/Lazio encounter in the next round of the Coppa.

27/11/2001 Shevchenko declaration

Andriy Shevchenko in a declaration in an interview said that he is happy at Milan and intends to stay with the club for as long as possible. He said that Real Madrid will fail in their bid to lure him to madrid since he intends winning trophies with Milan and not with any other team. He said he is only honoured that Real Madrid are interested in him, but nothing else.

Kuffour / Ze Maria

In a bid to strengthen the side Milan could be obtaining the services of two important players. Bayern Munich's Kuffour, who today scored the winner in the Intercontinental Cup Final, and Perugia's Ze Maria. Bayern are after Cosmin Contra and it is up to Ancelotti to decide whether the services of Kuffour are more needed than those of Contra. After chasing Perugia's Dellas, the central defender seems to have been offered a better deal by Roma.

Daino to return to Italy

Daniele Daino who was on loan to Derby County will be returning to Italy very soon. The player has not managed to command a first team place with Derby County after his injury and is unhappy in England. Milan could be passing the defender over to Chievo in a bid to be able to lure one of their players later on in some other deal.

Maldini recovering well

Paolo Maldini could be back sooner than expected. The probabilities are that he will play a few minutes again Perugia in the Coppa Italia this week and then be fully available against Serie A leaders Chievo next Sunday. Ambrosini is also training with the squad and is expected to return to the team in a few weeks.

25/11/2001 Inzaghi again !!!

-------

----0----- -------1

Inzaghi 30'

PARMA (3-5-2): Frey; Djetou, Torrisi, Cannavaro; Sartor (29’ st Diana), Appiah (35’ st Nakata), Boghossian, Lamouchi, Junior; Bonazzoli (1’ st Milosevic), Di Vaio. Subs: Taffarel, Ferrari, Falsini, Maini.

Manager: Passarella

MILAN (4-3-1-2): Abbiati; Helveg, Laursen, Chamot, Kaladze; Umit, Donati, Serginho; Rui Costa (45’ st Roque Junior); Inzaghi (47’ st Simone), Shevchenko (22’ st Contra). Subs: Rossi, Sarr, Brocchi, Pirlo.

Manager: Ancelotti

Referee: Borriello
Yellow Cards: Cannavaro (P), Donati (M)

Red Cards: Umit Davala (M)

Milan got all three points after an incredible game at the Tardini. In the moment when Milan were suffering from Parma's domination Inzaghi managed to put Milan ahead for the team to then be able to create a lot of good chances. Missing Maldini, Albertini and Costacurta, basically all the old guard, Milan still managed to hold on even without Gattuso, disqualified, and down to ten men. This was Parma's first home defeat of the season and Milan had not beaten Parma since 1995. This makes the result even greater. Ancelotti had various problems to solve with the players he had at his disposal. He opted for the duo Chamot-Laursen in the centre, with the Argentine playing a magnificent game. Helveg, the captain today, was played on the right with Kaladze on the left. Donati substituted Albertini in the central midfielder role with Umit in for the suspended Gattuso. Up front the usual Rui Costa, Inzaghi and Shevchenko.

After Abbiati had to make at least two good saves off Lamouchi, Milan came into their own with Inzaghi's goal. The first shot of the game fell to Shevchenko who only slightly troubled Frey. On the half hour mark from a free kick situation on the left Serginho's weighted cross saw Inzaghi clear himself from the pack, even though his shirt became oversize, to head easily into the top corner to Frey's right. A Rui Costa scorcher was saved with difficulty by Frey. After this goal it was Milan, Milan and more Milan at least until Umit was expelled from the game for a bad tackle. Just before half time Milan could easily have made it 2-0. A Serginho cros from the left saw Inzaghi about to head home completely unmarked but Shevchenko called for the ball only to see his header cleared.

For the second half Parma seemed more determined and inserted Milosevic in an effort to boost their forward line. After a Di Vaio shot went close it was Shevchenko who had a good chance from a Milan counter attack. On the 14th minute Laursen had a free header but the ball was incredibly cleared off the line by Frey. On the 20th minute Unit was sent off for a foul on Cannavaro. Ancelotti took Shevchenko out and inserted Contra to cover his right side leaving Inzaghi alone up front. At this point Milan showed incredible determination and seemed to double their efforts on the pitch in true Ancelotti style.

On the 42nd minute Boghossian equalised but his header was from a clear offside position. Ancelotti made another two substitutions. Roque Junior and Simone came in for Rui Costa and Inzaghi in order to relieve pressure by stopping the match. A very important win against a dangerous team which is showing improvement.

23/11/2001 Bayern want Contra

Bayern are chasing Milan for the services of Cosmin Contra. With Milan wanting Kuffur rumour has it that an exchange deal could be in the offing here.

22/11/2001 Sheva-Inzaghi !!!

-------

----2----- ------0

Shevchenko 37', Inzaghi 77'

MILAN (4-3-1-2): 18 Abbiati; 2 Helveg, 24 Laursen, 5 Costacurta, 13 Kaladze; 8 Gattuso (Brocchi dal 47' st), 4 Albertini, 27 Serginho (Contra dal 42' st); 10 Rui Costa; 9 Inzaghi (Donati dal 35' st), 7 Shevchenko (1 Rossi, 20 Sarr, 16 Chamot, 21 Pirlo).

Manager: Carlo Ancelotti.

SPORTING LISBON (3-4-1-2): 12 Tiago; 22 Beto, 6 Cruz, 5 Babb; 29 Cesar Prates, 23 Rui Jorge (Tello dal 37' st), 25 Joao Pinto (Luis Felipe dal 44' st), 15 Hugo Viera (Pedro Barbosa dal 37' st), 17 Paulo Bento; 7 Niculae, 16 Jardel (1 Nelson, 26 Quiroga, 3 Dimas, 2 Diogo).

Manager: Ladislau Boloni

Referee: Fernandez Marin (Spain)

Yellow cards: Serginho (M), Gattuso (M) Paulo Bento (S)

Spectators: 10.132

Ancelotti fielded Milan with Laursen and Costacurta in the centre, flanked by Helveg and Kaladze. In midfield Gattuso, Albertini, Serginho and Rui Costa slightly farther back than usual making up a 4-4-2 line-up with Sheva and Inzaghi up front. The tactical idea was to create more space for Shevchenko and Inzaghi to move into without cluttering the area just outside the box. Another interesting solution was Serginho continous help in the centre of the field, especially when Rui Costa moved forward. This helped bridge the gap between midfield and defence if Milan got caught.

Milan dominated the midfield sector from the word go and rarely let go. With Gattuso playing his heart out it was difficult for Joao Pinto to settle down thus cutting off the supply line for the danger men up fron Niculae and Jardel. One of the best chances of the half came from a Serginho header from a Helveg perfectly weighted cross which smashed into the crossbar with the keeper well beaten. Milan continued to dominate.

The first goal came after 37 minutes from a good move down the middle. Albertini, who had just switched with Rui Costa as playmaker, provided a simple but effective through ball to Shevchenko. The Ukranian controlled superbly, moved into the centre and cooly lobbed the ball smoothly over the onrushing Taigo for a merited lead. Milan took with them a good lead for the second half.

Ancelotti did not make any changes since the team was well balanced although sometimes they all seem to lose concentration thereby losing the connectivity between the three sectors of the field. In the second half Milan played worse and Sporting were starting to play a lot better, managing to creat a lot more from the right side of the pitch through Cesar Prates.

This did not keep Milan from developing a few counter attacks. The second goal came from a good move by Serginho on the left. He beat two men and crossed a low hard ball which saw Inzaghi flick into the corner of the net for a superb second goal. A number of substitutions took place after this. Ancelotti in order to defend the 2-0 lead and Boloni to at least score a goal. Donati substituted Inzaghi so that Milan can control midfield. Later on Contra came in for Serginho.

At the very end Brocchi came in for a tired Gattuso and Milan controlled the added three minutes to score a merited and important victory.

22/11/2001 Ambrosini back in two weeks

Max Ambrosini is training with the rest of the team and should be available in two/three weeks at most. After training yesterday, he declared that he was now feeling great and no pain whatsoever in his knee.

21/11/2001 Milan - Juventus

Milan - Juventus will be played on the 9th December at 20:30. The match will be the usual late match of Sunday night.

18/11/2001 Sterile domination by Milan

-------

----0----- ----- --0

MILAN (4-3-1-2): 18 Abbiati; 22 Contra, 24 Laursen, 5 Costacurta, 13 Kaladze; 8 Gattuso, 4 Albertini, 32 Brocchi; 10 Rui Costa; 7 Shevchenko, 9 Inzaghi (1 Rossi, 16 Chamot, 34 Umit, 15 Donati, 21 Pirlo, 27 Serginho, 69 Simone).

PIACENZA (4-4-2): 1 Orlandoni; 4 Cristante, 6 Lucarelli, 55 Maltagliati, 5 Tosto; 8 Di Francesco, 30 Statuto, 14 Volpi, 21 Matuzalem; 27 Hubner, 10 Caccia (99 Guardalben, 3 Cardone, 11 Ambrosetti, 17 Miceli, 18 Mora, 19 Gautieri, 20 Poggi).

Referee: De Santis

Red Cards: Costacurta (M), Cristante (P)

Yellow cards: Caccia (P), Gattuso (M), Cristante (P), Volpi (P), Gautieri (P)

Milan could only draw 0-0 with Piacenza at the San Siro today. Ancelotti fielded the normal Milan with Costacurta and Laursen in the centre and Contra and Kaladze on the left full back roles. In midfield Gattuso, Brocchi and Albertini, Rui Costa behind the attackers Inzaghi, Shevchenko.

The best chance of the match for Milan fell after one minute. With that opportunity it might have been a different story when Brocchi was all alone with only the keeper to beat within two metres of goal. However, Brocchi mishit the shot and it went wide. From then on it was only Milan attacking and Piacenza defending well. The balls fell to Inzaghi and Shevchenko who did not have the scoring touch today.

In the second hald things got worse. In a piacenza counterattack Costacurta fouled Volpi down before he could reach Abbiati and De Santis had no other option but to send off the Milan captain. Ancelotti inserted Chamot for Gattuso to replace a back four line up. Rui Costa fell back but soon afterwards Pirlo was sent in for the tired Portughuese, who was clearly unhappy with the substitution. Meanwhile, Cristante was sent off for a foul on Inzaghi.

At this point the game went into utter confusion with both teams trying to grab hold of midfield. Milan produced a last effort trying in desperation to score a goal. However Inzaghi and Kaladze were both unlucky with their chances. All in all a good performance by the players, but a hopelessly bad result.

18/11/2001 Probable line-up

This is the probable line-up Ancelotti will field against Piacenza.

MILAN: (4-3-1-2): Abbiati; Contra, Laursen, Costacurta, Kaladze; Gattuso, Albertini, Brocchi; Rui Costa; Shevchenko, Inzaghi.

17/11/2001 Sarr for Gargo ?

Milan could be exchanging Mohamed Sarr for Mohamed Gargo of Udinese next January. The bid to strengthen the defence is prompting this solution in order to obtain Gargo. With talk of Emiliano Moretti yesterday the probability is that only one of these solutions falls through. Other defensive solutions are Puyol of Barcellona, although this transfer seems very unlikely since Barca will do all that is possible to keep the defender.

New players

Ancelotti has added three players to the squad these are:

24 Paolo Sammarco 40 Matteo Deinite, 41 Mirco Stefani

16/11/2001 Milan might have Moretti

In a deal struck yesterday in a last effort to save Fiorentina from going to the Serie B or C owing to bankrupcy, Berlusconi bought 5 films for the sum of around 68 billion Italain lire. Rumours have it that the transfer of promising central defender Moretti formed part of this deal.

14/11/2001 Perugia want Kutuzov

Perugia have made an offer for Kutuzov. This was revealed today in some of the Italian press. Perugia seem likely to losr Vryzas next January to either Juventus or Inter who have made bids for the Greek player.

Sacchi had resigned ... in 1989

It has NOW transpired in an interview on Milan Channel that way back in 1990 Sacchi had written a letter of resignation from the post of manager at Milan. This occurred after Milan won the Champions league final against Benfica, but came second in the Campionato to Maradona's Napoli. Sacchi was so disappointed with the second place that he resigned. The letter lay idle on Berlusconi's desk for a whole week before our President convinced him to stay on as manager.

13/11/2001 Good solid Milan

Inzaghi 50', 62' Sogliano own goal 81'

Milan: Abbiati; Helveg (91' Donadel), Laursen, Costacurta, Kaladze; Gattuso, Albertini, Rui Costa (82' Kutuzov), Brocchi; Inzaghi, Simone. (70' Chamot) All. Ancelotti.

Perugia: Mazzantini; Sogliano, Dellas, Di Loreto; Ze Maria, Baiocco, Blasi, Tedesco (83' Fusani), Milanese (67' Grosso); Bazzani, Berrettoni (46' Cordova). All. Cosmi.

Referee: Preschern
Yellow cards: Mazzantini, Gattuso, Bazzani

A good solid Milan showed up at the San Siro this evening and virtually booked a place for the next round of the Coppa Italia. Ancelotti's first appearance was build around a hard working midfield and a very solid defence, basically leaving nothing to Perugia. With all the national players missing and also the injured like Maldini, Ancelotti fielded a back four defence with Helveg on the right and Kaladze on the left. In the central defender roles Ancelotti fielded Costacurta and Laursen. The hard working midfield of Gattuso, Brocchi and Albertini guaranteed that Perugia would find it extremely difficult to penetrate and get to the defence in the first place. Rui Costa was played just behind the attacking duo of Inzaghi and Simone.

It was in fact Simone who produced the best chances in the first half with some good shots, but the best chance fell to Brocchi after a good exchange with Inzaghi, but his shot was too central and saved by Mazzantini. Otherwise chances were few and far between but Milan were already showing better quality. The team however, lacked spirit and was too slow in its manouvres. Other chances fell to gattuso and Rui Costa.

The second half saw Milan come out with renewed spirit. The fact is that Milan had been beaten by Perugia in the last four outings. Inzaghi saw to that with two goals in 15 minutes. The first came from a header of a Rui Costa assist. the second came from another header off another Rui Costa cross. Both opportunites were similar with Inzaghi and Laursen able to get the free header. This meant that Milan were utilising a set piece, and it actually worked twice in a row !!! It was then Abbiati who saved the day with a great save onto the post to avert a certain goal. In the 81st minute a helveg cross destined for the onrushing Inzaghi saw Sogliano anticipate SuperPippo from a hatrick and score into his own net for a merited 3-0.

09/11/2001 Peschern to ref Milan - Perugia

Peschern will referee the match between Milan and Perugia this weekend. The match is valid for the Coppa Italia.

  • Ambrosini has resumed training with the squad.
  • Ancelotti asks Milan to get Crespo.
  • Milan reportedly after Fredrick Lyungberg of Arsenal.

07/11/2001 More signings ??

Milan seem to have finally agreed with Chelsea for Sam Dalla Bona. The player should be joining Milan's ranks in January, in the next available transfer window. Another name being mentioned is that of Ancelotti's pupil at Juventus, Birindelli. Milan have already started transfer talks with Juventus for this transfer. In defence there is new talk about the posibility of Cannavaro joining Milan. It seems the player is unhappy at Parma and Ancelotti's arrival at Milano could push the player in our favour.

Terim ....

Fatih Terim cancelled his meeting with Galliani and did not turn up at via Turati as was originally planned for a press conference. The Turkish manager proceeded to Milanello, picked up his personal belongings and left.

06/11/2001 Ancelotti presented at via Turati

Carlo Ancelotti was today presented at via Turati. Milan's new manager expressed his feelings by stating that the decision to manage Milan was a choice made from the heart since he has never actually felt that he left Milan in the first place. Getting back to Milanello and to meet his ex-team mates feels much like coming back home, he stated. Ancelotti has signed a two year deal running to 30th June, 2004.

05/11/2001 Terim sacked...Ancelotti new Milan manager

Terim will in all probability be sacked later on tonight. The definite details are being defined for Carlo Ancelotti to return to Milan, this time as manager. The decision was taken after yesterday's disastrous display and a number of incomprehensible substitutions by Terim. More details later.

Lucarelli 27th min.,

Torino: Bucci; Comotto, Galante, Fattori, Delli Carri; Asta, Cauet, De Ascentis, Castellini; Lucarelli, Ferrante (Vergassola 65).

Manager: Camolese.

Milan: Abbiati; Roque Junior, Costacurta, Laursen, Kaladze; Umit (Contra 74), Albertini (Simone 46), Gattuso, Serginho; Inzaghi, Rui Costa (Pirlo 70).

Manager: Terim.

Referee: Tombolini
Yellow cards: Albertini, Costacurta, Cauet, Roque Junior, Gattuso, Lucarelli, Pirlo, Simone.

Milan lost another golden opportunity against an incredibly motivated Torino with Inzaghi missing a crucial penalty kick with two minutes remaining. The match was another rough tussle with Milan totally unable to play football and with Torino defending thorughout the ninety minutes. Chances came few and far between but it was Lucarelli who luckily found the ball into his path, after a melee in the box, alone infront of Abbiati to beat him for the only goal of the match.

Milan had a few chances with Inzaghi as the only striker. When Terim inserted Simone to help him out nothing much improved. Milan continued to attack but in no co-ordinated manner and Torino found it very easy to just clear the ball away and wait for Milan to get back. After an Inzaghi header was saved by Bucci, Inzaghi was fouled in the area for a penalty in the 88th minute. He took the kick but he sent the ball well over the bar, much like Salas did from the same spot a few weeks ago for Juventus. A draw would have been a merited result, since Torino hardly merited the win, but Milan came out of Torino with nothing to show.

02/11/2001 UEFA Cup Draw - Sporting Lisbon

It was the draw Milan wanted to avoid, but it happened. From the four teams Milan could have picked in the draw held today Portughuese side Sporting Lisbon will play Milan in the next round of the cup.

CSKA (3-5-2): Lukic; Gueye, G. Ivanov (Petrov 46), Tomash; Valkanov, Yanchev, Letchkov, Penev, Vranjes (Georgiev 82); Manchev, Bucarev (Yanev 68).
Manager: Nikodimov.

MILAN (4-4-2): Abbiati; Helveg, Roque Junior, Laursen, Kaladze; Contra (Brocchi 73), Gattuso, Donati, Serginho; Rui Costa (Pirlo 67), Inzaghi (Javi Moreno 76).

Manager: Terim.
Referee: Gallagher (England)
Yellow cards: Ivanov, Petrov, Letchkov, Abbiati
Red cards: Letchkov 92

Milan played a very good match in Sofia and walked out winners in a very difficult and rough match against CSKA Sofia. Milan have now scored nine goals and conceded none in the UEFA cup.

CSKA were very nervous and at one point CSKA player - president Lubo Penev even kicked a ball and hit Terim who was furious with the treatment the Bulgarians were giving to our players. Letchkov was shown the red card towards the end with a bad foul on Donati.

Milan controlled the match quite easily despite the provocation and with time ticking away the Bulgarians become increasingly nervous. After 62 minutes Inzaghi broke the deadlock. A Serginho free kick found Inzaghi flying through the air and heading in a beautiful goal. Inzaghi scored again but had his totally legitimate goal disallowed for offside. In the meantime, Abbiati managed to produce a super save off a shot from outside the area.

The match ended with an increasingly nervous CSKA and with Milan easily in control.
