Red cards: 14’ st Kaladze; 14’ st Candela ; 21’ st Serginho

Nine man Milan held on to a point against soon-to-be-crowned Serie A Champions Roma. Despicable refereeing saw Cesari send off Kaladze, for being shoved and pushed by Candela and for unknown reasons Serginho. Cesari was clearly influenced by the crowd and showed yellow cards only to Milan players.

Milan took the lead on the stroke of half time when the Roma defence left Coco unmarked and the Italian headed home. Roma had dominated the first 20 minutes of the game but Milan seemed to be having a good day until Cesari managed to screw it all up.

The second half saw Roma trying to react with Capello inserting Montella to help bolster his attack. And it was Montella who scored a magnificent goal managing to lob over Rossi who was outside his area. Milan withstood the pressure well and towards the end were denied a clear penalty with Roque Junior being fouled blatantly managing to hit the post with a header. Cesari, of course, saw nothing.

A merited point which keeps up the hopes of a UEFA cup place alive.

The talented forward, sometimes compared to Ronaldo, will join Milan at the end of season 2002. In the meantime, for next season, Milan have obtained an option for Javi Moreno the Spanish Liga top scorer. Milan will have to beat Barcellona for his signature but it seems the player is more inclined towards Milan if the club decided so.

Milan heading just for UEFA cup

----- ---- ---

--------Milan----- --------- Fiorentina

----------1--1 --------------2

Chiesa (F) 11', 19', Shevchenko (M) 29'

MILAN: Rossi; Helveg, Costacurta(Guly 74'), Roque Junior, Maldini; Gattuso, Giunti(Leonardo 60'), Kaladze, Serginho; Comandini(Bierhoff 71'), Shevchenko.

Manager: Cesare Maldini

FIORENTINA: Toldo; Repka, Adani, Pierini, Moretti; Bressan(Bonora 63'), Amaral, Di Livio, M. Rossi; Rui Costa(Vanioli 83'), Chiesa.

Manager: Roberto Mancini

Referee: Rodomonti

Milan spoiled all their chances for the chance of a placing in next years Champions league. Milan conceded two soft goals, one from a free kick and one from a counter attack made possible by a Giunti bad back pass. From then on, it was Milan all the way. Shevchenko pulled one back at around the 30th minute mark but luck was definitely not on our side today. A lot of mistakes in midfield and in attack made it impossible for Milan to achieve the merited equaliser.

Add to all this an injury to Costacurta and one can conclude that it was indeed a bad day for Milan. Towards the end Bierhoff who came in for Comandini missed a couple of very good chances which could have turned the game Milan's way since Fiorentina were unable to get past the middle of the pitch, but as I said earlier, it was not to be. With Parma winning against Inter the chances are now reduced to "miracle level" as Parma have reinstated their six point lead, with now only three games left on the calendar.

17/5/2001Transfer talk

Talk about new players at Milan are still the order of the day. The latest players being mentioned are Beto, Guardiola, who should be having talks with Milan and Inter next week, Viduka and Dhorasoo. In the meantime Gattuso is Milan's most wanted man with both Leeds and Juventus after him.

Milan cut Inter into six pieces

----- ---- ---

-------- Inter----- --------- - Milan

-----------0--1 --------------6

2' Comandini, 18' Comandini, 53' Giunti, 66' Shevchenko, 77' Shevchenko, 81' Serginho

Inter: Frey; Ferrari, Blanc, Simic; Zanetti, Farinos (34' Cauet), Di Biagio (46' Seedorf), Dalmat, Gresko; Vieri, Recoba.

Manager: Marco Tardelli

Milan: Rossi; Helveg, Costacurta, Roque Junior, Maldini; Gattuso, Giunti (71' Guly), Kaladze, Serginho; Comandini (57' Jose' Mari), Shevchenko (81' Leonardo).

Manager: Cesare Maldini

Referee: Pierluigi Collina

Yellow cards: Helveg, Simic, Gattuso

Milan demolished Inter in a remarkable and unforgettable derby at the San Siro tonight. The scene was set for the contrary with Milan lacking players in the midfield sector again with Giunti, a playmaker, and Kaladze, a defender having to do the hard work in midfield. Gattuso was played on the right with a fantastic Serginho eating up miles on the left flank.

After only 2 minutes Milan had taken the lead. Serginho ran down the left flank and found Shevchenko was gave Comandini a great ball in the centre of the area. The forward left footed home easily beating Frey. It was again Comandini who headed home Milan's second. It was again a surging Serginho run which produced the cross. Comandini beat Ferrari on the run and headed home at an angle. The first half finished with Inter piling up pressure on Milan's defence which however, managed to soak it up quite easily also producing some good counterattacks. With the score 2-0 up at half time it was expected that Inter come out of the dressing room like lions. At least tha is what they tried to do until the 53rd minute whena Giunti free kick / cross saw several players lunging at the ball, including Roque Junior, with the ball landing beuatifully into the corner of the net with Frey mixed up as to who was going to hit the ball. In fact no one did !!!! Inter were now at a loss.

With the score 3-0 in Milan's favour they had to attack, but Milan had the right ingredients to hit back. With Serginho, Sheva and now Joe Mari just waiting to run away any chance they could. And in fact this is exactly what happened. On the 66th minute Serginho again made a run, found Sheva who slotted home goal number four. At this point Tardelli just sat himself down in the dugout, pale faced and unable to get anything out of his team. Various changes were made but on the 77th minute Kaladze found Shevchenko and the Ukranian this time anticipated Frey and shot into the top corner. Shevchenko was then replaced by Leonardo just when Serginho scored number SIX. The Brazilian ran half of the pitch on his own and in a central position and slotted the ball home, cooly lobbing Frey in the process.

A tennistic score of 6-0 was unthinkable. Add to that the fact that Shevchenko added two more goals to his tally and on could say that it was a perfect derby for Milan. Never had the score of 6-0 been registered in a derby !!!!!

8/5/2001 More bad news .....

More bad news from Milanello. Albertini's knee has to undergo an operation. The midfielder will be out for 3 months. The surgery will take place tomorrow. Good luck Demetrio !!!

Coco doubtful

Francesco Coco is very doubtful whether he can play Friday's derby match against Inter. The player had a problem with his knee, much like Albertini's and could also end up under the surgeon's knife.

Scouts news

Milan scouts have been eyeing an number of players in Brasil. Players being mentioned are 21 year old defender Jean and attacker Ewerthon.

Abbiati seeking reassurance

After Rossi's fumble last Sunday against Perugia, Christian Abbiati has been quoted as saying that he wants reassurance from the club in June. He has had offers from both Barcellona and Arsenal and since he cannot seem to be able to command a first team place in Milan he would seek other pastures elsewhere unless the club assures him of his future.

Rossi fumble downs Milan

----- ---- ---

-------- Perugia----- ------ -Milan

-----------2--1 ---------------1

5' Vryzas (P), 31' pen Shevchenko (M), 51' Vryzas (P)

Perugia: Mazzantini; Rivalta, Materazzi, Di Loreto; Ze Maria, Tedesco(92' Lombardi), Liverani, Baiocco, Tarana (34' Pieri); Vryzas, Ahn (69' Robbiati).

Manager: Serse Cosmi

Milan: Rossi; Helveg, Costacurta, Maldini, Coco; Gattuso, Giunti (74' Leonardo), Kaladze, Serginho (83' Guly); Shevchenko, Bierhoff (65' Comandini).

Manager: Cesare Maldini

Referee: Trentalange

Yellow cards: Tarana, Tedesco

Two goals by Greek Zizi Vryzas, one of them after a Rossi fumble both on the 5th minute of each half, were enough to give Perugia all three points and leave Milan well behind Parma and with Inter as company. Milan had the usual problems in midfield were he had to do without Albertini, who will probably have to undergo an operation in his troubled knee. Kaladze and Giunti were played in this sector with Gattuso on the right and Serginho on the left. However this setup was way to slow against a super determined Perugia who are eyeing a place in next years UEFA cup.

Perugia took the lead on the 5 minute mark were Vryzas was left completely unmarked in the centre of the area to easily slot home from 2 metres. Milan tried to gain control of the match and Perugia had difficulty in getting hold of the ball but the attacking duo of Bierhoff and Shevchenko was completely sterile not even managing to trouble Mazzantini once. The opportunity to equalise came Milan way from the penalty spot when Kaladze was pushed in the area. Shevchenko duly converted the kick sending Mazzantini the wrong way.

The start of the second half could not have started worse. Rosi in an effort to clear a corner kick fumbled the ball which fell onto his knee and onto the unmarked Vryzas who again scored easily. It was definitely not the right way to start off a second half which Milan had to try to win, since Parma were already ahead and easily outplaying Napoli. Inter were also enjoying a comfortable 3-0 lead over Atalanta. Milan looked demoralised and tired. Perugia on the other hand spurned on by Comi, continued to give Milan a hard time. Maldini tried hard to make amends by inserting Comandini for Bierhoff, Leonardo for Giunti and Guly for Serginho but the result did not change.

It is now extremely difficult for Milan to make a Champions league spot next season.
