Milan lose 2-1 to Valencia
A
tired Milan could not hold on to a 1-0 lead from Inzaghi
in the 29th minute of the first half. Milan played another
good match until the innumerous substitions and movements
on the pitch took their toll. The team ended the match
with Aliyu as a right winger, Kaladze back in midfield,
Javi Moreno as the sole striker and Brocchi battling it
out in midfield with a tired Gattuso. Valencia equalised
towards the end from a free header from De Lo Santos.
In the 91st minute Van der Ende saw an inexistant penalty,
when from a free kick situation Brocchi apeared to cover
his face to avoid a shot and much to everyone's amazement
awarded a penalty which Kily Gonzales scored. Milan had
a good tournment although the team still lacks match fitness.
This showed towards the end of the second half. Abbiati
had a brilliant match as did Rui Costa.

close to Celta Vigo

Boban is very close to concluding a deal with Celta Vigo.
The player is in the final stages of reaching an agreement
with the Spanish Liga club for a two year contract. In
the meantime from Spain comes the news that Atletico Madrid
have made a bid to lure Jose Mari back to their ranks
so that he can help them out win promotion back into the
Liga. If this happens, Milan will probably try to get
Nuno Gomes from Fiorentina to replace the Spaniard. Nuno
Gomes is very much on Terim's good book list.

managed to create at least five clear chances without
risking too much at the back. Abbiati, however, had to
make two good saves.

More details on Rui Costa
Rui
Costa's signing for Milan was characterised by the players'
wishes to join our glorious club. After Fiorentina and
Parma has already agreed on a transfer fee and finalised
the details Rui Costa insisted that he would not join
Parma and kept insisting for Milan or Real Madrid, (Fig's
insistence). Parma had offered him a higher salary since
they do not have a salary cap but Milan do. The Portuguese
star still wanted Milan despite this and when, during
last night, Lazio were very very close to signing him
he still said that "it is impossible that Milan cannot
make an offer. I want Milan". At that late hour,
at midnight, Galliani was at Arcore, with club President
Silvio Berlusconi. The President insisted that if Rui
wants Milan, Milan want Rui and the deal was finalised
with his agent, who was already in Rome. Rui Costa was
contacted in the middle of the night, via conference call,
and the deal was sealed there and then. It is reported
that the player will get around 8 billion lire a year,
a lot les than Parma offered him !!!!!
