Milan kept abreast with the preceedings by beating Brescia in a high tension game where Brescia's tactics played havoc with Milan. Both teams never gained control of the match and surely it was decided by an episode when pancaro found the ball on his head from a corner move. Two minutes later Kaka could have sealed it but his shot hit the crossbar.

Milan's so called second string formation still proved too much for Roma in the first leg of the Coppa Italia encounters. Redondo had a marvellous game as did Brocchi. The match was also a welcome return for Nesta who came back from a knee operation just 38 days ago to play a near perfect match. Ambrosini's merited winner came in injury time after a beautiful Redondo/Serginho move on the left saw goalkeeper Zotti clear into the path of Ambrosini, who easily netted home the winner. The retuen leg is at the olimpico next Thursday.

Milan played a superb match and made Roma suffer their first defeat of the season even though playing at the Olimpico Stadium. Shevchenko could easily have scored a hatrick but missed several sitters towards the end of the match. Roma's goal was very controversial since paparesta had given three extra minutes. After the third minute Roma had a corner from which they scored. Milan protested but to no avail.
