24/5/99 21:30pm Hi fellow Milanisti, AC Milan are the 1998/99 Serie A Champions. In the year of the 100th year anniversary our team has managed to obtain what was deemed impossible and improbable at the start of the season. This year had to be a year of transition and was programmed as such by the Milan management. The management were at first happy that Milan were in the leading positions and told us all that we would be extremely happy with a UEFA cup placing. Then, the target was changed when Milan had a chance to make it to the Champions League and I, myself, remember commenting that it would be a great result if Milan made it to the Champions League. Milan then had the opportunity to climb to second place and avoid any playoffs to participate and again we were happy. Finally, when Lazio stumbled, Milan were again ready to pounce on the opportunity and grasp it to clinch the 16th title, the 5th in 8 years. In the Serie A this feat is extremely difficult to achieve, so we must all be proud of our team. Now that I have begun to breathe again after the final 15 minutes of yesterday's match. I am sure that all of you who had the opportunity to see the match must have been amazed at the nervousness our side showed during all the second half. Zaccheroni jokes (afterwards) about this by declaring that before the match the whole team was nervous and he approached the old guard players Maldini, Costacurta and Albertini and told them to help out the youngsters. The save Abbiati made during the second half of the match also proved that Milan need look no further for a Rossi replacement. Milan have him inhouse and the only goalkeeper we will need is to be second to Christian Abbiati. He started the season as the number 3 goalkeeper behing Lehmann and Rossi. The German cracked under the pressure of the Serie A, whilst Rossi, decided to commit 'hara kiri' and give this youngster the chance of a lifetime. Christain grabbed the opportunity and held his position till the end of the tournament, ending the season with the highest rating of any Milan player. Zaccheroni kept the team in check. He looked Rossi right in the eye and placed Abbiati in his place. When Weah caused a few problems iat the start of the season he brought in Aliyu. When Ganz caused some problems he put him aside and talked to him. Same goes for Ziege, Ba and Boban etc etc. In the end all these players rallied around their manager and the team and got the desired result. At the end we can safely say that the heroes of the team were all the players. All gave their part and all have a merit. One must remember N'Gotty all important free kick and Ganz's last minute goals which kept us up there with the top teams. Ba kept the team in high spirit in the dressing room, with his jokes and pranks. Ziege, who although, booed and whistled showed team spirit. Rossi, who made the enormous mistake when he lost his nerves against Perugia and accepted his role on the bench. Ayala, who only played a few games but was always ready. Coco, who although a sure player of the future, showed that he will make the top grade. Mohammed Aliyu, who showed Weah the right way towards team spirit. These players were the so called supporting actors, as they are called in the Oscars. Zaccheroni put the film together and was the director whilst Galliani must have written the script !!!!!
