Milan drew 2-2 away to Brescia in an incredible game played in a 35C temperature and 80% humidity. An injury to Rui Costa sent Milan into a shock suffering two goals in a few minutes before half time from Albanian Ighli Tare. Rui Costa dribbled past threee defenders before being tackled from behind, only to fall awkwardly on his right hand. With cameras and microphones close to the player, one could hear too well the agonising cries coming from the Portughuese playmaker and it was clear that the injury ws a serious one. Coco came in for Rui Costa and Terim changed the team around to a a 4-4-2 formation. Kozminski wrecked havoc on the right with Chamot unable to cope with the first goal coming from a cross for tare to beat Coco in the header and score easily. The seocnd goal came again from a Kozminski cross. This time Abbiati failed to punch clear and Tare easily slotting home the header.

Terim must have said a lot of things at half time. He inserted Contra replacing Chamot and the Rumanian turned around the game. His continous runs on the right procured free kicks and even a penalty. Milan's first goal of the season came when Brocchi pounced on a lose ball after Serginho had crossed well into Inzaghi's path. The ball ended into Brocchi's line of shot and he left footed into the net after only 5 minutes into the second half. A Sergibho free kick was then just touched to corner and a few minutes later Inzaghi hit the bar with a header with Castellazzi easily beaten. Another good Contra run then produced the penalty. He went past two players before being brought down. Shevchenko took the kick sending the keeper the wrong way for a merited draw.

Rui Costa's injury means that the player will be out for a month. He has a fracture in his right hand and a damaged elbow.

25/8/2001 Brescia - Milan tomorrow

Milan kick off the Serie A season at Brescia tomorrow with a number of uncertainties. Terim has decided to leave Coco out of the squad and use Serginho on the left with Maldini back to his normal role behind him. In the central positions Laursen with start with Costacurta. Helveg is being preferred to Roque Junior and Contra in the defensive role. Gattuso, Kaladze will help Serginho in midfield. In attack the usual Rui Costa, Inzaghi, Sheva will start the match.

In this respect Coco is unhappy at this situation and has expressed his desire to move away from Milan so as not to jeopardise his role in the Italian national squad. A number of options are available at this point since Barcellona are very interested in the player and have offered either Philip Cocu or Gerard.

Milan did not play at all well in the first half after going 1-0 down after only 5 mins when Contra failed to control a ball in defense with Del Piero pouncing on the occassion to beat Abbiati. Milan reacted but Juventus were very solid in midfield and Rui Costa and company were no match for the Juventus midfield. Terim changed things to the better in the second half and Milan pressed forward creating some good chances. 4/8/2001 Besiktas 2 Milan 1

Shevchnenko (18th min), Zoubaier (59th min.), Nihat (91st min.)

Milan were again cheated in the last minute in the friendly played in Istanbul this evening. Milan lead 1-0 at half time with a Shevchenko goal and till all the first team players were playing, the team dominated the pitch. With changes in both tactics and players the team deteriorated badly and lacked punch up front. Milan took the lead from an Inzaghi - Shevchenko move with the latter being served just outside the area and his low shot finding the net to the right of Tugay. Milan created other opportunities but Inzaghi was not in scoring mode today. The second half saw the team change from a 4-3-1-2 set up to a 4-4-2 setup. Terim took off Inzaghi, Rui Costa, Donati, Laursen, Gattuso, Maldini etc etc and the team never managed to pick up pace. Towards the end javi Moreno hit the bar but in the 91st minute after Besiktas had equalised through Zoubaier and a Costacurta/Rossi blunder the linesman inexplicable waved an infreingement from Rossi who was accused of kicking the ball away from outside the box. From the resultant free kick Besiktas took an unexpected and undeserved win through Nihat.

BESIKTAS (3-5-2): Fevzi, Tayfur, Umit (1’ st Erman), Ahmet, Zoubaier, Nihat, Ilhan (25’ st Arild), Mehmet Ozdilek (1’ st Tumer), Bayram (32’ st Sertan), Ibrahim, Yasin.
All.: Daum
MILAN (4-3-1-2): Abbiati (1’ st Rossi); Contra (24’ st Pirlo), Laursen (1’ st Costacurta), Maldini (18’ st Brocchi), Coco; Gattuso (32’ st Donadel), Donati (1’ st Kaladze), Serginho; Rui Costa (1’ st Helveg); Inzaghi (1’ st Javi Moreno), Shevchenko. All.: Terim.
Referee: Ali Aydin
Spettatori: 32 mila circa

On a positive note Laursen played well on his debut and the whole Milan team is improving all the time and with every game.

Latest Milan moves

The transfer market is still far from closed. Bierhoff is close to a Premierchip club, probably Fulham since the player has refused Southampton. Dalla Bona has declared that he will rather join Milan than Inter and both interested clubs are having talks with Chelsea. Daino could also be on his way to England by joining Derby County on loan. Amongst all this Milan have made a major capture in getting an option on Ibrahimovic of Ajax. The young Swede, Bosnian blood, impresed Milan so much in the quadrangular tournee hald in Amsterdam that the club has decided to invest in the player.

2/8/2001 Boban joins Celta Vigo

Boban has finally said "ciao" to Milan after nine glorious years at the club. He will be joining Celta Vigo in the Spanish Liga with Milan's help since the Celta could not fully compensate the player in respect of salary. A hearty "Grazie Zorro" goes out from ForzaMilan.com for all the years Zvone gave to the club.
