Two
goals by Greek Zizi Vryzas, one of them after a Rossi
fumble both on the 5th minute of each half, were enough
to give Perugia all three points and leave Milan well
behind Parma and with Inter as company. Milan had the
usual problems in midfield were he had to do without Albertini,
who will probably have to undergo an operation in his
troubled knee. Kaladze and Giunti were played in this
sector with Gattuso on the right and Serginho on the left.
However this setup was way to slow against a super determined
Perugia who are eyeing a place in next years UEFA cup.
Perugia
took the lead on the 5 minute mark were Vryzas was left
completely unmarked in the centre of the area to easily
slot home from 2 metres. Milan tried to gain control of
the match and Perugia had difficulty in getting hold of
the ball but the attacking duo of Bierhoff and Shevchenko
was completely sterile not even managing to trouble Mazzantini
once. The opportunity to equalise came Milan way from
the penalty spot when Kaladze was pushed in the area.
Shevchenko duly converted the kick sending Mazzantini
the wrong way.
The
start of the second half could not have started worse.
Rosi in an effort to clear a corner kick fumbled the ball
which fell onto his knee and onto the unmarked Vryzas
who again scored easily. It was definitely not the right
way to start off a second half which Milan had to try
to win, since Parma were already ahead and easily outplaying
Napoli. Inter were also enjoying a comfortable 3-0 lead
over Atalanta. Milan looked demoralised and tired. Perugia
on the other hand spurned on by Comi, continued to give
Milan a hard time. Maldini tried hard to make amends by
inserting Comandini for Bierhoff, Leonardo for Giunti
and Guly for Serginho but the result did not change.
It
is now extremely difficult for Milan to make a Champions
league spot next season.
